The Network plays a pivotal role in emergency planning for the East Midlands region and has long recognised the importance of managing and planning for emergency events.
EMERGO Exercises and Training
Members of the Network Management Team (past and present) are trained Senior Emergo Instructors . This training and subsequent skill set enables the team to design and deliver emergency exercises utilising the Emergo Train System® (ETS); a research-based simulation system used for education and training in emergency and disaster management. The ETS is designed to simulate the process of an emergency response and can be used:
In 2015 the Network worked with Emergency Planning colleagues to design and deliver a major trauma regional exercise (Exercise Autumn Power).
In June 2018 the Network delivered a regional simulated emergency planning event, Exercise Greenacre. Using the EMERGO Train System, this was the first event delivered that specifically tested the in-hospital phase of the scenario, stressing critical care capacity in the Network, but not specifically a major trauma incident. The finishing point of this exercise was the starting point for future workshops in individual member organisations.
Further information including associated data and summative report of the Greenacre event is available via the Network Administrator [email protected]

- as a training and exercise tool for decision-making in complex emergencies
- to assist personnel involved in planning and managing the response to major incident
- to assess how different outcomes could have been achieved (e.g. in terms of lives saved and quality of treatment) if different decisions had been made.
